[wip amnesty] kurochia? or something?? idk

Chiaki lifts his hands to breathe into his palms after he jogs to the top of the train station stairs, out into his neighborhood. Shifting his weight from one foot to the other, he shoves his hands in the front pockets of his jacket, wishing again he hadn't forgotten his gloves and hat at home, and takes off at a walk probably a tidge too fast to just be a power walk. Main street is long, but he pulls to a stop at the awning just before the udon shop and, after lingering a moment looking around, he reaches out to push back the curtain that barely covers any of the alley, he steps underneath it. When the curtain swings back into place behind him, Chiaki has to close his eyes against a wave of dizziness, and when that's over he grins at his actual neighborhood, lit yellow by lanterns, winding off in every possible (and some impossible) direction. Home, sweet home.

"Good morning, Mrs. Takamine," Chiaki calls over the counter of the greengrocers' as he passes, and the plump woman who co-owns the place looks up to wave at him. As she turns back to washing cabbages (maybe?), the lights in the shop all flicker, and Chiaki moves to fill her doorway with concern written all over his face.

"Who's there," he calls, loud, and comes to a stop when he spots a cat with two tails curled up atop the register. Relaxing, he crosses to scratch it behind its ears, where he knows it likes it, and grins at the only son of the Takamines when he shows up from the back, a milk crate in his hands.

"What are you doing," Midori complains, but Chiaki's busy scratching the bakeneko under the chin, now. "Ahhhh, Hinata, you're not supposed to come into the store like that..."

The cat opens one bright green eye, and yawns, long, before standing up to stretch, paws carefully placed around the keyboard. Its back arches, and then it leaps off the register, form fading from cat to human in the blink of an eye. "Aww, Midori, I'm not gonna cause any trouble," she says, dancing closer to lean on the counter and say hello to Midori's mother.

Chiaki's phone buzzes when he opens his mouth to ask Midori what he's planning for the day, and he fumbles it out of his jacket pocket to stare at the message on the screen. It's from Kiryu, his roommate.

morisawa, meet me at corner store, flash sale on meat

A flash sale is tough to come out on top of when half your neighbors are ghosts. Well, that and there's usually a limit per customer. Between him and Kiryu they can definitely get enough together to be well stocked for, like, a week. Humming to himself, he taps out an affirmative.
